They must have settled in Stoke Gifford, and I believe all of their
children were
baptised at St. Michaels - Mary, 1789. Anne,
1790. Love, 1793. Edward* 1795. Ruth 1798,
Hannah, 1800. Elizabeth 1802. Elizabeth 1804.
William 1806. John 1809.
(despite bearing at least 10 children, Love lived till the ripe old
age
of 84, being buried at SG on April 19, 1848.)

(he was a carpenter/wheelwright in Stoke Gifford). Their

(both Edward and Sarah were buried in Stoke Gifford. She in
1849 and he in 1854)

were caretakers of Stoke House after the Duchess of Beaufort either
died or moved away until the house was rented to Admiral Close,
when they left to live in Cheddar).
George, 1869, was my grandfather. He moved up north to
Stockport with the Great Western Railway, and in 1893,
married Elizabeth Fox, the daughter of a local police
sergeant. As for his siblings, only John remained in Bristol
and had six daughters. The others went to live in London,
Bournemouth, Banwell, and Weston. Prior to 1768 there are two
or three Merrick families in Winterbourne Parish records.
John and Mary Merrick born around 1700 in the record above, are identical to the winterbourne parents of William Merrick who was baptised December 12th 1725 . His first wife was Anne with their marriage being about 1749, they had six children but Anne died giving birth to their last child in September 1758. In 1759 he married again to Mary Curtis who must have come from a strong puritan family as their three children were named Ruth, Virtue and Hester, Mary also died in childbirth in February 1763. At the age of 43 he married again for the third and last time to Mary Prosser who I feel was probably a widow as they only had two children, Thomas 1769 and Grace 1772.
